Lure Cigars is putting a mob twist on its fish-themed lineup with The Codfather, a Connecticut Shade limited edition that went out to retailers this week.
It’s the third collaboration between Lure and its distributor Valacari, following The Redfish in 2025 and Nereus earlier this year. Both of those were 2,500-cigar runs, according to halfwheel, so at 4,000 cigars The Codfather is the largest of the three. Lou Cross III founded Lure to honor his late father, who loved fishing and cigars, and Valacari owner Nimmer Ahmad has been a friend and mentor to Cross for more than a decade.
The cigar comes in a single 6ยฝ” x 54 size Lure calls a Sublime. It uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder from Estelรญ, with aged filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras. The packaging plays up the name, with a cod clutching a red rose in its mouth.
Lure describes The Codfather as mild to medium in body, listing heavy cream and cedar up front, followed by pine nuts, a touch of vanilla and a light white pepper note on the finish. That puts it on the lighter side of a portfolio that includes the recent Maduro core line expansion and limited runs like The Wahoo, The Jolly Walleye and The Slim Jim.

Production is capped at 4,000 cigars, packaged in 10-count packs and priced at $16 per cigar MSRP. The release is allocated to select retailers through Valacari, Lure’s distributor, and shipped on October 21. Lure didn’t disclose the factory, though halfwheel reported last fall that Valacari and Lure moved production from Tabacalera Pages de Nicaragua to La Tabacaria Cigars.
