Following the critically acclaimed launch of HVC Cigars’ limited-edition HVC 500 Years Anniversary in 2019—including Cigar Dojo’s No. 1 Limited Edition Cigar of the Year award—the company is expanding the line with two new sizes for 2020: Shorts (4½” x 52) and Selectos (5⅝” x 46).
The original release of HVC 500 Years Anniversary was rolled in a singular 5⅞″ × 52 format dubbed Tesoros, which was made in honor of Havana City’s 500th anniversary in 2019. Virtually everything HVC Cigars produces pays tribute to Havana, being the birthplace of company owner, Reinier Lorenzo. In a press release sent today, Lorenzo commented, “For me the cigar is about remembering where we come from.”
The two new formats feature the same blend as the original, consisting of a Corojo ’99 wrapper from Jalapa, a Jalapan binder, and Criollo ’98 and Corojo ’99 fillers from Estelí and Jalapa. The cigars will be limited to 12,000 boxes of 15 cigars between both sizes, with the rothschild (Shorts) being offered exclusively online, while the corona gorda (Selectos) will be sold only by HVC’s top brick and mortar accounts. Further differentiating the 2020 release from the original, the boxes feature a plain wood appearance, as opposed to the black-painted look of the original.
