Davidoff is giving two of its American flagship stores a cigar nobody else can sell. The company’s new City Edition is a limited series made only for its Davidoff of Geneva since 1911 flagships, and it starts with separate releases for New York and Las Vegas.
Both cigars share the same 5 1/2 x 55 gran robusto format, but each city gets its own blend and its own box. The lids carry gold and black artwork of each city’s skyline, with the Statue of Liberty on the New York box and the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on the Las Vegas box.
Details on the blends come from Cigar Aficionado. The Las Vegas edition uses an Ecuadorian wrapper and binder over Dominican filler that was aged in a wine cask, and Davidoff rates its strength a three out of five. The New York edition has a darker Ecuadorian wrapper, an Ecuadorian binder and all-Dominican filler, rated three and a half out of five.
“With the City Edition, we bring the exclusivity of Davidoff directly to our flagship stores,” said Javier González, senior vice president and head of global marketing and innovation at Oettinger Davidoff, in comments to Cigar Aficionado. “For the first time, we are launching a series that belongs entirely to the cities that inspire it. New York and Las Vegas each have their unique blend and box, which cannot be found anywhere else. They are perfect for travelers and collectors alike.”
The New York cigars will be sold at Davidoff’s three New York City flagships on Madison Avenue, Sixth Avenue and Broadway in Brooklyn. The Las Vegas cigars go to the flagship on South Las Vegas Boulevard. Both are made at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic, packed in boxes of 10 and priced at $49 per cigar.
The series follows another store-specific project from Davidoff this year. Since September 1, its Boutique Selection has given the Geneva, Hong Kong and Madison Avenue flagships their own 6 x 54 cigars, according to halfwheel.
Davidoff has shown up on our year-end lists more than once. The Grand Cru Diademas Finas (#3) and Davidoff Maduro (#14) made the Dojo’s 2024 Top 20, and the Yamasá was #2 in 2016.
The City Editions go on sale November 2, though Davidoff notes that launch dates and availability may vary by location.
