Coming onto the premium cigar scene in 2015, Mike and Greg Szczepankewicz’s Powstanie brand has now grown to include four core-line offerings, debuting the Powstanie San Andrés in February 2025. Taking pride in the owners’ Polish decent, the Powstanie name and logo draw on symbolism from the country’s heritage. The Powstanie name is Polish for Uprising, and the P-shaped logo was inspired by symbols used by the Polish resistance movement during World War II. With the Powstanie San Andrés, the band was given a new metallic-red color scheme, and the line centers on the blend’s wrapper component: a dark Mexican San Andrés leaf. Rolled out of the Nica Sueño factory in Nicaragua (of RoMa Craft fame), the remainder of the ingredients feature a multinational recipe, including an Ecuadorian Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. This amounts to a rich and flavor-forward smoking experience that’s matched in overall body, delivering a medium-full (or perhaps slightly higher) intensity and dialed-in notes of black pepper, damp soil, coffee bean, and a deep, jammy fruit character that lingers beneath the surface.
