The Independence Day cigar debuted in tandem with America’s 249th birthday in 2025. It’s a subset of the Warhead series, which is a subset of the La Bomba line, which is a subset of the 601 line from Espinosa Premium Cigars… got it? It was a Warhead-focused year for Espinosa, not only continuing their annual series with the Warhead 11, but bringing back a couple Warhead cigars through the new “Re-Up” program. And then there was the Warhead Independence Day, which offered the most unique tobacco recipe from a Warhead cigar to date, swapping the usual Broadleaf wrapper for a new Ecuadorian maduro leaf and an all-Nicaraguan interior blend. The cigars were rolled in a soft-pressed 6½” x 55 toro extra size, featuring a patriotic color scheme over the Warhead’s iconic “tiger face” foot band. While the Warhead is known for its over-the-top intensity, the blend variation seemed to tone things down a tick or two; there’s still quite a bit of body and texture, but it smokes more balanced when compared to former releases. The cigar is syrupy to the core, opening up with hickory, rich earth, and touches of red pepper. As the experience progresses, the Warhead dives into darker territory, with notes of mocha, raisins, molasses, and—eventually—clove and pumpernickel.
