Avowed Cigar Company made their formal debut in February 2025, being led by Andrew Considine and David West, who are best known for their involvement with retail operations Maxamar Ultimate Cigars and Smallbatchcigar.com. In setting out to build the brand’s identity, the duo partnered with another up-and-comer in the industry, Klaas Kelner, son of Hendrik “Henke” Kelner. While the Kelner name is closely tied to Davidoff, the family’s roots run much deeper throughout the Dominican Republic, spanning decades of tobacco cultivation and factory operations. In 2023, Klaas opened his own facility, Kelner Cigars S.A.S., with Avowed quickly emerging as one of the factory’s most visible partners. With their debut, Avowed hit the ground running, featuring The Vow (Cigar Dojo’s Under-the-Radar Cigar of the Year winner for 2025) and New Dawn as core lines, alongside Awakening and later The Vow Higher Calling as more limited offerings. Differing from the wide appeal that most newcomers shoot for, Avowed feels targeted at the connoisseur, featuring upscale packaging, fine-tuned tobacco recipes, carefully differentiated blends by vitola, and a clear emphasis on aging and construction. For a first-year brand, the vision feels unusually focused and fully formed, making Avowed one of the most confident and compelling new names to emerge in 2025.
