With a diverse lineup dating back over 50 years on the premium cigar market, Davidoff Cigars has no shortage of blends to choose from when looking to revive an old favorite from the playbook. In 2024, the brand brought back the Davidoff Maduro, which originally launched in 2008 and was discontinued in 2016. Not one to shy away from tweaking their blends, Davidoff employed a 16-month fermentation process to the cigar’s thick Ecuadorian wrapper (a high-priming Corte #7 leaf), representing the standout ingredient of the modern iteration of the blend. After fermentation, the wrapper is aged in bales for two years, enhancing richness and complexity. Additionally, the new Davidoff Maduro uses a Mexican binder instead of the original Dominican leaf, while retaining the Dominican filler from its predecessor. This updated version weaves through darker territory of leather, earth, and espresso, all without coming across as muddy or overbearing. The experience is punchy and rich—most notably in the toro format—offering familiar characteristics from the Davidoff wheelhouse (damp wood, mushroom, and musky coat closet), though seen through a darker, maduro-minded lens.
