Twenty twenty-one was the year of Corojo 2012 tobacco, at least for those that work closely with the famed AGANORSA tobaccos of Nicaragua. With the agricultural operation adding the 2012 varietal to its tried ‘n true Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 leaves, brands such as Illusione, Aganorsa Leaf, and HVC were quick to capitalize. In terms of the latter, this materialized as the HVC 10th Anniversary, marking the company’s significant milestone with the help of the new strain. HVC owner, Reinier Lorenzo, opted for a full viso leaf of Corojo 2012 within the filler, being joined by Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98. The Nicaraguan filler is bound in a nondescript Nicaraguan binder and finalized with a Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 leaf from the Jalapa region. The experience is medium in strength yet punchy in flavor, with Cubanesque qualities of cedar, buttered toast, barnyard musk, and candied nuts.
