First debuting in 2011, Davidoff’s annual Zodiac Series is one of the longest-running, limited, consecutive releases on the market. The cigars ship each fall, taking on the zodiac sign of the forthcoming Chinese New Year—in this case, the Year of the Tiger, which begins on Feb 1st. This year’s release was particularly unique, as Davidoff used a special processing technique on the cigar’s Connecticut wrapper, playing off the tiger theme with a striped pattern that is unlike anything before it. In terms of zodiac symbols, the Tiger is logically a sign of strength. Avoiding the obvious urge to blend a powerhouse cigar, Davidoff instead brought added body to the traditionally mild Connecticut style. This is not to say that the Davidoff Year of the Tiger Limited Edition 2022 is strong, but there is certainly a noticeable uptick in body and strength from the company’s usual Connecticuts. The Tiger is sweet and nutty through the start, with a velvety texture showing evolving complexities of buttered mushrooms, cappuccino, black tea, and sourdough.
