After focusing nearly exclusively on the famed Corojo-seed tobaccos from the Eiroa family’s fields of Honduras for the first four years of existence, JRE Tobacco Co. turned to diversification in 2020. This included two new wrapper styles: Honduran-grown Cameroon (Aladino Cameroon) and Honduran-grown Habano (Aladino Habano Vintage Selection). The latter cigar is particularly interesting, as the Eiroas (owners of JRE Tobacco and their own tobacco farms throughout Honduras) had the cigars rolled throughout 2015 and ’16, aging them for five years prior to release. At launch, Aladino Habano Vintage Selection arrived in a singular Rothschild format (though additional sizes should materialize in the coming years), priced at $6 and packaged in bulk-sized boxes of 50 cigars. The Habano wrapper change offers a familiar experience, compared to the original Aladino cigar, adding a zesty kick through the retrohale. The cigar is medium-plus in body and filled with flavor from first light, offering classic components of aromatic cabinet spices, brown sugar sweetness, freshly cut cedar, and plenty of caramel—all shown through an irresistible mouthwatering texture.
