M—the Roman numeral for 1,000. This character is emblazoned front and center on the Mil Días cigar from Crowned Heads, simultaneously representing the cigar’s name (which is Spanish for 1,000 days; i.e. the amount of time spent bringing Crowned Heads’ latest core-line brand to life). The cigar further emphasizes the partnership between Crowned Heads and the once-little-known Tabacalera Pichardo factory in Nicaragua. This relationship first materialized in 2018 with the shop-exclusive Juárez brand, Crowned Heads’ first cigar made with Tabacalera Pichardo. Shortly before this, Crowned Heads co-owner Jon Huber was presented with blend samples by Don Eradio Pichardo and Luciano Meirelles of Tabacalera Pichardo. These samples have led to a significant partnership between the two companies, now including Mil Días as the crowning achievement. The cigar is among the most complex—in terms of tobacco blend—from Crowned Heads to date, using leaves from four different countries. Despite the Habano wrapper, Mil Días pulls off a much more nuanced performance than anticipated. It’s all about finesse with Mil Días, bringing soft and complex intricacies of buttermilk, saffron, frothy cappuccino, and lemon cake.
