Perdomo Cigars has long ranked among the top-selling brands in the States, maintaining a consistent portfolio that has become well-known for its quality and dependability. This ties into a slow and steady approach, where new cigars and brands come few and far in between. Yet in back-to-back years, Perdomo has introduced revamped brands with all-new tobacco blends, ranking on our Top 10 list in both 2019 and 2020.
While 2019 saw the reintroduction of the ESV collection—a limited series that has bobbed in and out of Perdomo’s lineup over the last 15 years—2020 brought a much-needed refresh to one of their most foundational offerings: Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary. Two cigars were introduced—Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Maduro and Sun Grown—replacing the former Champagne Noir and Champagne Sun Grown blends, respectively. While the Maduro ranked highly when reviewed earlier this year, it was the Sun Grown that stood out in our Cigar of the Year voting. This is a Nicaraguan puro blend, boasting six-year-aged tobaccos throughout the entirety of the cigar. This includes leaves from Perdomo’s Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa fields, being topped with a sun-grown wrapper that has undergone 10 months of secondary fermentation in spent bourbon barrels. The result is a full-bodied, full-flavored smoking experience, offering an impressive value for the line’s modest price range. This includes standout components of toasted pumpkin seeds, fiery red pepper, rye bread, and warm caramel.
