Since launching the modernized iteration of Warped Cigars in 2014, the company has never shied away from limited edition offerings. But while many brands within the boutique scene are equally familiar with the concept, Warped seems to have carved out its own niche in this space, often releasing some of the industry’s most sought-after limiteds simply by making subtle tweaks to its pre-existing lineup of brands (as opposed to building new concepts from the ground up). These spinoff blends include fan-favorites such as Black Honey, Sky Flower, and Maestro del Tiempo 6102R, among others; where a simple wrapper change or tweaked filler blend is enough to have enthusiasts and collectors abuzz.

The latest such cigar is known as Warped Moon Garden, a special release that was announced in the spring of 2018, going on to become one of the most anticipated limited edition releases of the year. The cigars are based on one of the brand’s earliest releases—Flor Del Valle (translating to mean “Flower of the Valley”)—continuing the floral theme with a similar design and a clever twist on the cigar’s name. This is in reference to the unworldly flavors offered by the cigar’s most unique ingredient—medio tiempo, with a small amount of the rare tobacco being used in the cigar’s filler. This leaf is more dense and potent than the standard corona leaves that are the uppermost leaves on typical tobacco plants. But a small percentage of plants grow the extra medio tiempo leaf above this priming, serving as an extra boost to the Moon Garden blend. And while Warped has featured cigars with this leaf before, the Moon Garden marks the first time it has been used on a lancero-sized cigar (also being Warped’s first true lancero of any blend, for that matter).

With only 650 boxes of 10 cigars released, the Moon Garden is the most limited cigar in our Top 5 Limited Edition Cigars of the Year list. And the cigars do not disappoint, showing a medium-full body and dynamic flavors of black pepper, dark rye bread, dark cocoa, musty wood, and smooth toffee candy. This is an exciting cigar to smoke, with plenty of transitions to keep the smoker engaged from start to finish.
