I’m always on the lookout for a cigar that’s different, affordable, and delicious. Today I have found a diamond in the rough, the Placeres Reserva from Kuuts Cigars. Kuuts makes two other brands the MIRÓ and the Tabacalera Zapata and I have smoked and enjoyed all three of Kuuts brands but I believe the Placeres Reserva is their best. The vitola I am reviewing is the robusto size (Estrellas) and it’s a rather interesting shape. The 5×50 stick is box pressed and very flat. It kinda sits in your mouth like a San Lotano Oval.
The gorgeous rusty brown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper covers a Costa Rican Binder and is filled with a combination of Nicaraguan and Honduran long filler. The Placeres has a delicious earthy smell and the draw on the cigar is absolutely perfect in my opinion.
After lighting what impresses me the most about this cigar is the balanced flavor. There isn’t one note smashing me in the face over and over like so many gimmicky cigars on the market. This cigar is smooth and enjoyable. And because the cigar is so balanced it’s a bit difficult to pick out any one overriding flavor but you will likely find earthy tones of damp wood, warm caramel, and milk chocolate. I paired the cigar with a coffee and the two flavors played off one another perfectly.
As I worked my way down the cigar the flavor profile stayed on course although a subtle spice began to enter the picture which was a welcome addition to the party. And when you enter the final third of the Placeres Reserva there is a sweetness on your tongue from the tobacco as well as the smoke that makes the finish on this one something that you will remember for the rest of the evening. I stated earlier these cigars are a bit under the radar they are not impossible to find. Both Famous and Cigars International carry them so they are easy to purchase online. And for just over 6 bucks per stick these are certainly worth having in the humidor.
Would I smoke this cigar again?
Yes! For the price, these cigars feature everything you want in a medium bodied smoke, great construction, balanced flavor and satisfying smoke. I would recommend this stick for a morning or afternoon smoke or possibly the cigar to kick off your night since it wont destroy your palette. Master Sensei says pick up a 5-pack of these and let me know if you agree with my review.
