Today I am smoking the Partagas Benji Menendez Master Series. I bought this Partagas from my local brick and mortar and the size I picked up was the 6×46 “Majestuoso”, the cigar also comes in a Toro which I plan to try in the future. The Benji features an aged looking Cameroon wrapper and a Partagas label with Benji Menendez’s signature on it. To be frank there is nothing special about the look of this cigar and if you didn’t know any better you might just mistake it for any other Partagas. Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Don’t get me wrong, Partagas cigars are excellent but I believe this one is on another level.
As with most Partagas cigars the Benji has a perfect draw and before toasting and lighting I am picking up a very subtle spice aroma which has me drooling in anticipation of what may follow next.
After lighting the Benji my first impression is chocolate, it’s a lighter chocolate more like a milk chocolate. There is a nice spice to the cigar but it’s very subdued, maybe in the vein of cinnamon or nutmeg but it’s subtle. The thing that will grab you with the Benji is the creamy flavor. The finish on the Benji is all about cream, like a table cream that coats your mouth. With the nice chocolatey flavors of the tobacco and the creamy finish this cigar is like eating a s’more by the campfire.
The construction is perfect as this cigar burns razor sharp all the way and it’s producing volumes of thick rich smoke on every draw. The ash stays on firm and there is no heating up this cigar you can punish it and it stays nice and cool. The Partagas Benji is a balanced cigar, it’s medium strength with medium to full flavor and none of the flavors are overwhelmingly dominate and yet all the flavors finish with a super satisfying savory cream in the back of your throat. With each and every draw you will find yourself saying… “man, this is a tasty cigar”.
As I wind my way towards the end of the Benji I am noticing a bit of sweetness almost like a chocolate covered cherry. This cigar is different and stands out in a crowd due to the subtle flavors and the creamy finish. I rank this cigar up there with some of the best and it’s clearly the most satisfying Partagas I have ever had.
Would I smoke this cigar again? Yes, in fact I am planning on buying a box of the Toros. I first heard about this cigar on the Cigar Dojo app from my buddy CubanPete and his advice was spot-on as this is one excellent cigar!
