Blackbird Cigar Co. is marking its 10th anniversary with Mockingbird, a new Short Run release that’s already sold out. The company says its retail partners took the entire allocation of 500 boxes before the cigar’s official release, and the first shipment is scheduled for Monday, October 26.

The name plays on the mockingbird’s reputation for copying other birds’ songs, though Blackbird is clear that the cigar has its own voice. The company’s line on it: “Inspired by the Crow blend. Made to speak for itself.”

Mockingbird uses a Corojo wrapper over a Brazilian Cubra binder, with Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania tobaccos, including Corojo and Criollo 98, in the filler. Blackbird rates it medium to full in body. It lists cedar, earth, and pepper at the start, with roasted coffee, toasted nuts, leather, and cocoa coming forward as the cigar burns, followed by a long finish.

The cigars were made in the first quarter of 2025 and rested ahead of this year’s release. There’s one size, a 6″ x 52 toro, sold in 10-count boxes for $15 per cigar ($150 per box). That puts the run at 5,000 cigars, and Blackbird says any future production will depend on whether the tobaccos in the blend are still available.

“Imitation has never been part of our DNA. We didn’t spend ten years building Blackbird to sound like everybody else. We built it to have a voice of its own. Mockingbird is a reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere, but identity must come from within,” said Jonas Santana, CEO and co-founder of Blackbird Cigar Co.

Because the allocation is spoken for, Mockingbird will only be at the 37 shops that signed on for the release, spread across 14 states and Puerto Rico:
