J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has begun shipping Brick House The Commodore Maduro, a new 5½ x 70 vitola that joins the company’s Brick House Maduro lineup.

The new cigar is available in 25-count boxes and five-count humidor bags with a suggested retail price of $11.50 per cigar.

According to the company, The Commodore was developed as a shorter alternative to the Brick House Mighty Mighty (6¼ x 60), which remains the brand’s most popular size.

“Brick House is known around the world for its outstanding taste, flawless construction, and excellent value,” said fourth-generation owner Drew Newman. “Our most popular Brick House size is the 6.25″ x 60 Mighty Mighty. This year, we will hand roll 1.1 million cigars in that vitola alone. The Commodore is Mighty Mighty’s big brother. It recognizes the popularity of larger ring gauge cigars, but its standard 5.5″ length makes it more approachable than the typical 7″ x 70.”

Like the rest of the Brick House Maduro line, The Commodore is produced at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. It uses a Brazilian Arapiraca maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos.

The Brick House brand traces its roots back to founder Julius C. Newman, who was born in 1875 in the only brick house in his Austrian-Hungarian village. The home served as both a gathering place and family residence, later inspiring the name of the cigar brand after Newman established his company in the United States.
