Punch is no stranger to Father’s Day hijinks in the form of their limited/annual cigars. This time, for 2025, they tied on the apron and fired up the grill for some Mr. Punch’s Wieners. Their past limited releases celebrating everyone’s favorite guys include Dad Bod (complete with beer-can packaging) and Dad’s Home Movies (with a unique VHS tape-style box). Their one-of-a-kind creative packaging brings something special to celebrating all the dads in our lives with a great cigar.

This release kicked off summer with the classic tradition of a backyard barbecue (minus the heartburn!). The cigars are arranged to look like a package of grocery store hot dogs, drawing nostalgia from the mid-1980s family cookout. The navy blue and red package features Mr. Punch himself complete with chef’s hat and apron, perched over the grill with a cigar in hand. Much like hotdogs, the cigars come 10 to a package, leaving you with the same old issue of not matching the amount of hot dog buns in the bag!!! (dad joke).

“Mr. Punch’s Wieners may have a funny name. And a funny shape. But this blend is no joke. Loaded with rich tobaccos and rounded at both ends to offer two unique smoking experiences, Mr. Punch’s Wieners is the perfect gift for Father’s Day and a cigar you’ll want to come back to all summer long.” —Scott Abney, brand manager

Mr. Punch’s Wieners is a double end-capped, rounded cigar that can be smoked and enjoyed from either end. This feature gives the hobbyist two distinct smoking experiences (depending which end you light), as one half of the cigar includes Dominican andullo tobacco fermented in palm tree pods.

Appearance

The Mr. Punch’s Wieners cigar is a unique double-headed cigar. The main band has a wide layout, with half of the background color being navy blue and the other half being red in order to distinguish each end when being smoked. Note: I will refer to the navy end and red end as the distinction of what side is being smoked during the review. The Sumatra wrapper is a very dark brown color that has a reddish hue to it under the right light. Mild veins are noted, with a classic dry sandpaper grit from the Sumatra leaf.

Smoking Experience

Pre-light, Mr. Punch’s Wieners has the aromatics of light black pepper and cinnamon. With two straight cuts, both ends were removed. The cold draw produces a smoky/yeasty flavor, with a slight ballpark nacho cheese component. The cold draw was fairly tight with not much air flow.

NOTE: when I reference that I am smoking the blue side, I mean that the blue side is closest to my mouth and the red end is lit. When smoking the red side, I mean that the red side is closest to my mouth and the blue end is lit.

Navy blue side smoking experience: This cigar opens like a minor league baseball game—slightly off key, and it’s clear you’re not watching the pros. Right from the start, you get dry rye bread with some harsh ammonia flavor. Some notes of charred oak and paprika are noticed. Retrohale is light black pepper (not too strong) and possibly a touch of mustard seeds.

Into the middle innings, you start to get some dry gritty texture on the tongue with some light cedar notes. The rye bread flavor turns to a salty ballpark pretzel, while the retrohale starts to pick up with more of a hot black pepper intensity. Coming into the ninth inning, the afternoon sun during a slow minor league game is taking its toll. The flavors become weak and very dry, not offering much in entertainment. However, the pitching of the retrohale is still bringing the hot pepper heat, carrying you through the end of the game.

Red side smoking experience: This baseball-themed doubleheader of a cigar, unfortunately, didn’t deliver twice the entertainment its packaging promised. The red side had very much the same character as the first game. But just like a doubleheader baseball game, the players were tired (and so were the flavors). I picked up all the same elements, but none hit quite as hard.

The burn of the cigar from either end was mild and uneven. There was modest white smoke output. The cigar was firmly constructed, with a notably solid feel in the hand. Both caps were well-constructed, but the draw was tight no matter which side you lit. The ash formed a dense white block that clung on like a drunk neighbor at your cookout—stubbornly hanging around for nearly two centimeters (better than the two hours you won’t get back from the neighbor).

Would I Smoke This Cigar Again?

The Mr. Punch’s Wieners Father’s Day limited release screams fun outdoor dad cookout time. The concept of a double-ended or dual-blend cigar isn’t new, but in this case, both ends delivered essentially the same smoking experience. The navy-blue side offered slightly more intensity, while the red side felt like a muted, watered-down version of the same profile. On the plus side, the profile offered an enjoyable dry, gritty texture with notes of rye bread and salted pretzel, along with a developing spice on the retrohale as the cigar progressed. The price on this limited-edition cigar helps redeem the experience—much like minor league baseball offers an enjoyable game day without the major league price tag. However, the gimmick and lack of two distinct smoking experiences leads me to pass on the hotdogs and go for a bacon double cheeseburger instead. I would, therefore, unlikely smoke this cigar again.

Punch Mr. Punch’s Wieners
The Mr. Punch’s Wieners concept is a continuation of the fun stuff that dads love. The idea of two blends in one cigar is great, however they just didn’t quite hit the mark and come through with this project. he blue side delivered more intense notes of rye bread and salted pretzels, accompanied by a retrohale heat that gradually built throughout the smoke. The construction of a double-headed cigar was well done, but the core didn't have the composition to produce a unique enough experience. It’s priced fairly for a one-time try, but not something I’d go out of my way to hunt down or stock up on.
