Last month, Plasencia Cigars showcased the limited Year of the Tiger cigar at the TPE 2022 trade show in Las Vegas. The company has now announced that the cigars are shipping in limited quantities across the country.

Plasencia Year of the Tiger follows last year’s Plasencia Year of the Ox cigar, showcasing the famed Plasencia family’s take on the Chinese zodiac theme that cigar manufacturers have increasingly embraced in recent years. Similar to the former release, the Year of the Tiger boasts a Nicaraguan puro recipe, this time said to include tobaccos that have been aged for 10 years.

In Chinese culture the tiger represents characteristics such as determination, confidence, persistence, and is also known to be dynamic. Established in 1865 all those characteristics were needed for the company’s longevity. Being dynamic was especially relatable to the family, as to survive for well over a century, the company has had to be creative and forward-thinking to change with the times.

Like other zodiac-style releases on the market, Plasencia’s are billed as ultra-premium cigars, with the Year of the Tiger retailing for $40 per cigar MSRP ($320 / 8-count box). The cigars have been rolled in a singular 6¼” x 54 toro format, offering a medium-bodied profile with “notes of chocolate, nuts, and some initial spiciness.” Plasencia Year of the Tiger is now shipping to the US market, limited to 2,500 boxes.
