Pure Aroma Cigars and their premier brand, D’Crossier, returned to their roots at the start of 2021, bringing back the Golden Blend name that first put them on the map. Not only this, but the cigars were produced out of Costa Rica once more—where fans had first fallen in love with D’Crossier and their knack for crafting classic, Cubanesque smoking experiences. The Golden Blend Reserva is the most regal cigar in the Golden Blend collection to date, showcasing company owner, Isaias Santana Diaz’s, eye for opulence and perfection on full display. This begins with a unique box setup, where a thick, structured cardboard box is decorated to resemble a traditional cigar box (hinges and all). Sliding off the top, you are presented with the actual box, which is a classic wood display that is well lacquered and wrapped in a red velvet sleeve. Santana was one of the first to design punched cellophane, and you’d better believe the Golden Blend Reserva shows off the latest such design on the 25 cigars within.

Of course, all the ornate packaging in the world wouldn’t amount to more than a fancy vessel for discarded cigar bands if the cigars couldn’t rival the mood laid out by the presentation. This is achieved through the selection of an Ecuadorian Habano claro wrapper, which is triple fermented during a 10-month period and finalized with an additional year aging in Spanish cedar boxes. This leaf surrounds an undisclosed binder and fillers of Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, which have been aged for seven years. The cigar is extremely well rolled, offering a sturdy construction and a long burn time. It begins with a clean mouthfeel and mild body, slowly evolving to medium, with regal complexities of crème fraîche, oily butter, nutmeg, and Cuban pastry sweetness.
