Bursting onto the scene just last year, Warped Cigars has quickly become one of the most popular, new, small-production companies around. With fantastic PR campaigns through social media, beckoning customers to immerse themselves in the “Warped Lifestyle”, it’s no question they have a strong foundation to grow their company even further.

Moving into their sophomore year, Warped has unveiled its 4th regular production line; keeping with the brand’s philosophy of creating solid, core-line products and generally straying from limited editions. La Hacienda is an old Cuban brand from the 1900’s, meaning “The Estate”. This Nicaraguan puro, from the Casa Fernandez TABSA factory in Estelí, comes in only two sizes: Superiores (5.6″ x 46) and Gran Robusto (5.5″ x 52).

I am a big fan of all of Warped Cigars’ presentations—each one very different from the others, but still maintaining a classic “Warped Lifestyle” look to it. The La Hacienda is no exception—this might actually be my favorite band from Warped. The band is very beautiful, displaying bright turquoise highlights across a sophisticated composite of patterns made up of gold and black. It stands out, and everyone will know your smoking a Warped cigar.

Smoking Experience

La Hacienda has a nice, smooth, medium brown wrapper, with little to no oil. There is no noticeable tooth, with very small and tight veins and seams throughout. A bit of a dry coffee and tobacco aroma is subtly produced from the foot. After a clean cut, the cold draw shadows slightly tangy flavors, as well as general tobacco—also revealing a slightly tight draw. Once lit, a full blast of flavors rushes through—tight draw or not—leaving my mouth filled with abundantly chewy smoke. Flavors of leather, cream, tangy fruit flavors, and a little cedar wood. Overall, I found a huge blast of leather that was very satisfying.

Warped La Hacienda corona cigar review

Burning a few inches down, a slight cracked pepper joins the palate, combining nicely with the cedar and leather. Graham cracker and anise mix well on the retro-hale, but the fruity flavors feel a bit out of place. The draw is still a bit tight, but the La Hacienda still produces a fine amount of smoke to keep me puffin’ away.

About forty-five minutes in, the cigar continues to burn perfectly toward the halfway point. The leather continues to be the dominating flavor, providing a nice, chewy smoke. Pepper and spice slowly develop further, along with a sweet oak wood on the finish. The draw remains snug but manageable. The cigar remains lit for minutes at a time, while also holding its ash in solid chunks.

Towards the end, the flavors start to change quite a bit compared to the start. Along with the semi-sweet oak wood, an even sweeter milk chocolate joins in, creating a smoother and much sweeter smoke. Leather and pepper are still there, but toned down, staying quiet in the background of the finish. The retro-hale remains remarkably smooth, with anise, spice, and earthy flavors finishing out the stick.

Would I smoke this cigar again?

Absolutely. The cigar’s bold start of leather and floral notes really intrigued me. The rich, chewy smoke was very enjoyable, I only wish I could have had a better draw to go with it. The transitions were also nice, keeping me interested all the way down to the nub. Definitely give this one a try.

Warped La Hacienda cigar review and rating

La Hacienda Superiores
Warped has created another delicious cigar. True, it may not be as breathtaking as some of their other releases (talking about you, Don Reynaldo), but it still maintains the quality we have come to know and love. Great smoke texture, delicious flavors, transitions, and a long burn time—this has all the makings of a fine cigar. Oh, and doesn’t it look awesome?
