La Aurora has announced the annual return of two of its limited-production lines, with the Preferidos Hors d’Age 2025 LE and Puro Vintage 2016 scheduled to begin shipping to U.S. retailers later this month.

The bigger change comes with the Hors d’Age, which will be offered in two sizes for 2025. Alongside the familiar 5¾” x 54 Toro, La Aurora is introducing a 6⅞” x 40 Lancero for the first time. The new size will be distinguished from the Toro through green packaging and bands.

Both sizes use an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and binder over fillers from the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Nicaragua. According to La Aurora, every tobacco used in the blend has been aged for at least 12 years.

“From seed to cigar, the journey for this release began 12 years ago,” says Manuel Inoa, La Aurora Master Blender. “As a result, we named it Hors d’Age, which is taken from the French cognac designation, literally translating to ‘beyond age.’ Just as Hors d’Age cognac represents exceptional quality developed through time, we set out to create an annual release that reflects the highest level of quality through expert aging and blending.”

Inoa says the Lancero is a format he has smoked privately in previous years, with the thinner ring gauge placing a greater emphasis on the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper.

“The combination of these aged tobaccos in a format that accentuates the Ecuador Sumatra wrapper is something that I’ve smoked personally each year; however, I am now excited to share this format with the rest of my friends in the U.S.”

Production for the U.S. market is limited to 700 15-count boxes of the Toro and 500 15-count boxes of the Lancero. The Toro is priced at $31.50 per cigar and $472.50 per box, while the Lancero is priced at $25 per cigar and $375 per box. Both are expected to begin shipping in late October.

Joining Hors d’Age is the latest annual release of La Aurora Puro Vintage, this time focusing on tobaccos dating back to the 2016 crop.

Despite the Puro Vintage name, the cigar is not a Dominican puro. The series combines tobaccos from multiple countries, with each edition built around aged crops selected by Inoa. Puro Vintage was first introduced in 2008.

Puro Vintage 2016 uses an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper, Brazilian binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Nicaragua. It is offered exclusively in a 6½” x 50/60 Salomon doble figurado.

“The Salomon format gives this cigar a very special smoke,” says Inoa. “Its shape, the doble figurado, makes it evolve differently as it opens and closes the ring during the burning, accumulating strength at the end. A real festival of taste from around the world.”

La Aurora has produced 700 eight-count boxes of Puro Vintage 2016 for worldwide distribution. Pricing is set at $28 per cigar and $224 per box, with U.S. shipments expected to reach retailers in mid to late October.
