German Engineered Cigars has filled out its portfolio. The Hamburg, Germany company says Raumzeit and Weltschmerz, its two Nicaraguan blends, are now available to order through its distributors, joining the Dominican-made Kraftwerk, RVGN, and RVGN Extrem.

Founded in 2016 by Oliver Nickels and Jan Klaas Mahler, German Engineered builds each blend around what it calls an “aromatic journey,” a written description of the experience it’s after, before its blenders pick the tobacco. Both cigars now ship with the company’s NFC-enabled band. Tap it with a phone and it authenticates the cigar, pulls up that aromatic journey, and opens a “Moment Log” where you can keep notes on the smoke. You don’t need an app.

Raumzeit is the lighter of the two, rated light to medium in body and pitched for when you need “space.” The company’s description reads: “Traveling at the speed of light, far beyond the next galaxy, while a friendly android serves cake.” According to German Engineered, it uses a Nicaraguan Connecticut wrapper, an Indonesian Sumatra binder, and filler from Jalapa, Nicaragua, along with Dominican Piloto. It’s offered in three sizes: Robusto (5ยผ” x 50), Torpedo (6ยผ” x 52), and Gordo (6″ x 60). The company also labels each vitola by volume, so those come out to 42, 54, and 68 cubic centimeters.

Weltschmerz is medium-bodied and billed as “the blend that reminds you who you are.” Its description: “Back in the rolling hills of home. The oven still warm, childhood memories in the air. All is well.” The blend pairs an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper with a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and fillers from Estelรญ and Jalapa. Sizes are Robusto (5ยผ” x 50), Perfecto (5″ x 54), and Toro (6ยผ” x 52), and all three now come in the company’s Aero packaging, a 25-count paper box.

In the U.S., the cigars are distributed by City of Palms Cigar Distribution. German Engineered didn’t include pricing in the announcement.
