After more than four decades serving the Austin cigar community, Pipe World is entering a new phase of ownership.

The Haass family, who founded the business in 1983, has initiated a structured transition that will ultimately place Austin-based cigar professional Tyler Jeffery at the helm. The move is designed as a gradual handoff rather than an abrupt sale, with an emphasis on maintaining continuity for customers, employees, and industry partners.

Originally opened in a mall setting with a focus on pipe tobacco and gifts, Pipe World evolved alongside changes in retail, eventually expanding into a standalone destination shop in Round Rock and an additional Austin location. Over the years, the shop developed a reputation for knowledgeable staff and a wide-ranging selection, becoming a consistent presence in the local premium cigar scene.

Jefferyโ€™s connection to the store began as a customer. Introduced to the Haass family by regular Skip Martin, he developed a close relationship with owner Kyle Haass and eventually became part of the storeโ€™s day-to-day operations. As the Haass family began planning for retirement and travel, discussions turned toward identifying a successor who would preserve the shopโ€™s operating philosophy.

Under the current agreement, Jeffery is acquiring Pipe World through a structured transition plan. He has been working full time at the shop since January 1, 2026, training directly under Kyle Haass to ensure operational knowledge and company culture are transferred carefully over time.

โ€œPipe World isnโ€™t changing,โ€ said Tyler. โ€œThe same people, the same philosophy, and the same commitment to customers remain. My role is to learn directly from the Haass family and carry their legacy forward.โ€

โ€œWe built Pipe World over 45 years on relationships, trust, and taking care of customers,โ€ said Kyle Haass. โ€œTyler understands and respects that history. Iโ€™m excited to mentor him through this transition and watch him carry Pipe Worldโ€™s legacy forward.โ€

Both parties have indicated that the transition will unfold over an extended period, with the shared goal of maintaining stability while positioning the business for long-term continuity in the Austin market.

For local customers, the message is straightforward: the ownership structure may be evolving, but the day-to-day experience at Pipe World is expected to remain consistent.
