Ten years after introducing Foundation Cigar Company as his first solo venture in the premium cigar space, Nick Melillo leaned into his blending strengths in order to deliver a proper anniversary experience. The cigars are dubbed Foundation 10 Year Aniversario, being rolled in an eye-catching Salomon perfecto format that weighs in at 7″ x 58. Playing off the unique shape, the packaging displays the cigars in a fanned-out design, with the thick wood box taking on a wedge-like appearance. Clearly no expense was spared from tobacco to presentation (which also arrives in even more limited humidor displays), being among the most impressive offerings of the year. Known for his use of Connecticut, Mata Fina, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, Nick utilized each of these components throughout the blend. This includes leaves grown by A.J. Fernández throughout the filler, harvested from farms of Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega. These fillers are bound in a Brazilian Mata Fina leaf and finalized with a unique hybrid of Connecticut Broadleaf and Habano seed for the wrapper. The overall experience is regal meets grit, with a dark and syrupy smoke being nicely concentrated through the cigar’s tapered shape. The profile is medium-full (or more), with damp soil and black pepper leading into dark chocolate, brown sugar glaze, blackberry jam, leather, and black licorice.
