J.C. Newman Cigar Co. unveiled the Angel Cuesta Shade at the Premium Cigar Association Trade Show in New Orleans. Named after Angel LaMadrid Cuesta, co-founder of the Cuesta-Rey brand, this cigar traces its roots to a blend favored by Spain’s King Alfonso XIII, who ruled from 1886 to 1931. The Angel Cuesta Shade follows the Angel Cuesta Rosado, introduced two years ago.
Crafted at J.C. Newman’s El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida, the cigars are rolled in The American Room. They feature a Nicaraguan Shade wrapper, a pigtail cap, and a blend of binder and filler tobaccos from three continents. Available in three sizes—Doble Robusto (5.5” x 56), Toro (6.25” x 52), and Salamones (7.25” x 57)—they are packaged in cabinets of 20.
“Angel Cuesta cigars are very limited,” said a company spokesperson, noting that only 150 are hand-rolled daily by a pair of experienced rollers. Initially offered to Tobacconist Association of America retailers last fall in the El Reloj Collection box set, the Angel Cuesta Shade is now available in its own cabinet packaging for the first time.
