From the US to Nicaragua to the DR, Warped Cigars have now settled into their third primary manufacturing home with Hostos Fernández Quesada’s Tabacalera la iSLA factory, located in Santiago, Dominican Republic. And while the company has had a handful of such releases over the past three years, 2024’s Isla del Cocodrilo feels like the first release to solidify the transition. The cigar’s name translates to Crocodile Island, referencing both the shape of the island (when viewed from the sky) and the region’s native crocodile, said to be found only in Cuba’s Zapata Swamp and on the Isle of Youth. As you might expect, the cigar sports a familiar Cubanesque appearance, though its blend is a bit more diverse than the puro-heavy lineup that Warped became known for over the past decade. This begins with a deflorada-style Habano wrapper, being secured over dual binders from Brazil and Ecuador, as well as an all-Nicaraguan filler. This amounts to a calm, composed temperament, emphasizing balanced flavor output rather than strength. The cigar is medium in intensity, opening up with classic notes of freshly baked bread and honey before developing touches of leather, cardamom, and toasted cedar.
