No. 6 Cigar of the Year 2024 – The Chancellor

Marking a triumphant return after a devastating 2022 factory fire, The Chancellor represents ADV & McKay Cigars Co.’s first release from their new Tamboril-based facility in the Dominican Republic. Crafted as a unique concept, the cigar is a collaboration between cigar broker and ADVentura veteran Adrian Acosta (who ADVentura describes as their “right-hand man”) and co-founders Marcel Knobel and Henderson Ventura. With The Chancellor, Acosta didn’t simply help with the concept or selection process—instead, his father’s expertise in seed germination contributed directly to the blend. Falling under the company’s metal-banded The Royal Return line, this limited blend combines a Corojo wrapper with a Dominican binder and Sumatra leaves in portions of the filler. This amounts to a medium-bodied experience, opening with a refined combination of toasted almonds and caramel before developing into more complex notes of cedar, must, and subtle baking spices, with a distinctive buttered popcorn finish that elevates the entire experience.
