From El Titan de Bronze to Aganorsa Leaf; from Tabacalera la iSLA to Fábrica Oveja Negra; Black Star Line Cigars has demonstrated a solid track record of manufacturing partners in the company’s first four years on the market. Each of the aforementioned locations are among the most sought-after facilities in the world of premium cigars.
Twenty twenty-three proved something of a breakout year for Black Star Line, partnering with two new factories (Tabacalera la iSLA and Fábrica Oveja Negra) to introduce the Mr. Fahrenheit and Rosewood 1923 lines. The latter was a project with James Brown, creator of fan-favorite brands such as Black Label Trading Co. and Black Works Studio, as well as being the blender/director of the boutique-minded Fábrica Oveja Negra factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
With Rosewood 1923, the cigar is themed around the racially motivated massacre that took place in Levy County, Florida. Additionally, the cigar pays homage to John Singleton, the filmmaker who brought the event to life through the 1997 film Rosewood. In terms of the cigar itself, Rosewood 1923 was introduced in a single 6″ x 48 format, making use of a four-country blend that is topped with a toothy San Andrés maduro wrapper. This makes for a concentrated smoke output, being full in flavor and only a step back in terms of strength/body. The profile maintains an eye for complexity as well, not being content with masking underlying nuance through its dark wrapper. This makes for an engaging profile of rich earth, smoked hickory, touches of black pepper, and a sweet espresso that’s on par with a nice café Cubano.
