Luxury Cigar of the Year 2023 – Davidoff Aniversario No. 1 LE 2023

Outside of Cuba, few brands command such rich history as that of Davidoff. This was the focus throughout 2023, kicking off “The Difference” campaign, which brought back notable releases in Davidoff’s famed White Band Collection—a theme that was described as “cigar history re-rolled.”

The campaign began with the Davidoff Signature No. 1, being followed by the Davidoff Millennium Lancero and Davidoff Aniversario No. 1 (and a similar such release under the Grand Cru line presumably forthcoming). The Davidoff Aniversario No. 1 was first rolled in 1986 under the name Davidoff 80 Aniversario, being a celebratory offering for Zino Davidoff’s 80th birthday. While originally a Cuban blend, the cigar followed the brand into the Dominican Republic during Davidoff’s great exodus of the ’90s (then going by the Aniversario No. 1 title), but was eventually retired in 2016.

Sized at a whopping 8 ⅔” x 48, the Aniversario No. 1 Limited Edition 2023 is truly a sight to behold. But while similar such cigars can tend to be slow off the start, the Aniversario No. 1 lights up with a bright and refreshing effervescence. Aromatic florals and clean cedar lead in the early goings, paving the way for satisfying complexities of almond butter, citrus zest, nutty browned butter, and sugar cookie as the double corona opens up over the course of nearly two and a half hours. A true luxury-class cigar, the Davidoff Aniversario No. 1 LE 2023 is a fitting choice for life’s most worthy celebrations.
