Perhaps the biggest changes to date in Illusione’s fan-favorite portfolio arrived in early 2023, consolidating five blends into a more cohesive collection known as Original Documents. Along with four pre-existing lines, this included the addition of an entirely new blend: Original Documents Habano. This is a cigar that was quick to turn heads upon its announcement in 2022, as company founder, Dion Giolito, moved from his longtime manufacturing partner of Aganorsa Leaf, instead partnering with A.J. Fernández’s San Lotano facility in Ocotal, Nicaragua.

For this reason, fans were eager to get a crack at the Original Documents Habano, having the potential to showcase the golden palate of Giolito from a new perspective (i.e. using tobaccos of an entirely different grower). Not surprisingly, the cigar stands up to the challenge, reinforcing Illusione as having their own signature profile despite the underlying materials or location of production.

The Original Documents Habano is delicately spicy and refreshingly sweet—a flavor-forward treat for the Habano junkie. The cigar is very well balanced, providing just the right amount of nostril-stinging spice while leaving the palate clean and refreshed between draws. The core profile is that of cabinet spice, floral/fruity candy, and table cream, with a gentle effervescent buzz through the retrohale providing a signature element that sends it over the top.
