First debuting in 2015, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust was content with a single cigar offering (Sobremesa), allowing the line a full year in the limelight before being joined by the Mi Querida in 2016. It was a slow and methodical burn during the early years—only introducing one or two lines annually, with each filling the ever-shrinking gaps within the overarching portfolio.
But Dunbarton really seemed to begin gaining speed over the last few years, adding shop-exclusives on a fairly regular basis, the “world’s first luxury pipe tobacco cigar,” and a mysteriously sweet (or is it) Connecticut that’s had the collective cigar world gossiping for the better part of the last four years. Add onto this the snarky-yet-lovable charisma of its owner, Steve Saka, and it’s easy to see why Dunbarton has become arguably the most engaging company in the business today.
In 2023, Dunbarton doubled down on all fronts, expanding the company’s collaborative efforts with releases such as the Sobremesa Brûlée Wagashi and a national launch of the beloved Red Meat Lovers Club. There were line extensions such as the Krakatoa, PapaSaka, and StillWell Star Holiday Y2023; and who else could pull off a second (and THIRD) hundred-dollar cigar? Meanwhile, the associated SAKASQUATCH GROUP rose to an impressive 3.3k members, being an unquestionable contender for the most fanatical collection of enthusiasts in the craft cigar space. From the ‘Summer of Saka’ to a non-stop schedule of in-person events and podcast appearances, there’s no question about it—Dunbarton OWNED 2023.
