After BurnR is the first cigar collaboration between the Dojo and Fratello Cigars, combining both companies’ ties to space exploration (you read that right!).
It’s well known that Fratello’s Omar de Frias spent 12 years with NASA, but Cigar Dojo has a space connection of our own. Eric Guttormson’s (owner of Cigar Dojo) father, John R. Guttormson, was a technical illustrator for NASA during the 1950s and ’60s, bringing engineers’ concepts to life as the first spacecrafts took shape. After closely guarding these detailed illustrations for nearly 70 years, the After BurnR project gives new purpose to these cherished heirlooms, bringing to life a mid-century project for the modern era.

Under development for roughly two years, the After BurnR is truly a special project for Cigar Dojo and Fratello Cigars. The blend came to life when Omar de Frias acquired a highly aged bale of Dominican tobacco—one that could not be replicated in a regular-production cigar. This leaf was the impetus for the After BurnR blend, being joined by other Dominican leaves in the filler, a Nicaraguan binder, and a zesty Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper. This makes for a medium body and long-lasting flavors of cedar, sourdough toast, aromatic florals, and a sugar/salt combination reminiscent of kettle corn.
The After BurnR cigar is part of a recent shift in terms of manufacturing for Fratello, partnering with the bourgeoning, boutique-minded Tabacalera la iSLA factory of the Dominican Republic. The cigars were rolled in a single 5″ x 50 robusto format, being limited to 300 boxes of 10 cigars.
