Celebrating 180 years since Hermann Dietrich Upmann arrived in Cuba, Altadis USA introduced the H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier at this year’s TPE trade show, held in Las Vegas, NV.

German for Barber, the Barbier offers a barber-pole-style wrapper, including Ecuadorian Connecticut and Ecuadorian Sumatra. These leaves surround a Java binder and a filler blend from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and (undisclosed) Broadleaf.

“The use of these contrasting shades of wrappers makes for an eye-catching, barber-pole-like presentation,” says Pedro Ventura, Hand Made Operation and Product Development Manager of Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic where the cigar is being produced.

“The wrappers work together to add an entirely new flavor profile to the cigar, making one’s smoking session a lot more interesting as well,” he says.

The cigars will debut in five sizes, with prices ranging from $7.25 to $9.75 MSRP.
