German Engineered Cigars may have been in the premium cigar game since 2016, but it hadn’t been until recently that they really found the right gear. Twenty twenty brought a name change from Rauchvergnügen to German Engineered Cigars—surely a step in the right direction. But 2022 seemed to be where everything clicked, partnering with Claudio Sgroi (of Mombacho Cigars fame) to blend the Raumzeit—officially recognized as their second full-time line. Raumzeit is themed around space, with its name being the German word for Spacetime. This concept fits nicely within the clean, mechanical lines of a company themed around engineering, while allowing for a bit more fun than their former releases. It even arrived with the description, “Traveling at the speed of light, far beyond the next galaxy, while a friendly android serves cake.” It’s that final word that resonates, as the Nicaraguan Connecticut-wrapped cigar is bright, sweet, and jam-packed with flavor. We were particularly impressed with its aromatic characteristics of fruity florals, citrus, butterscotch, milky tea, and buttered popcorn.
