Expanding on the StillWell Star line of 2021—described as “the world’s first luxury pipe tobacco cigar”—Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust (DTT) introduced the StillWell Star Holiday Y2022 cigar in late 2022. This limited release was inspired by the pipe industry’s annual tradition of bringing out holiday pipe blends and one-off pipe designs to coincide with the season. Like the core-line StillWell Star cigars before it, the Holiday Y2022 cigar was blended in collaboration with pipe juggernaut Cornell & Diehl, who provided an aromatic blend of mild Cavendish Burley and choice Virginia tobaccos for Steve Saka (owner/founder of DTT) to build upon. These pipe tobaccos were rolled within an all-Nicaraguan filler blend, bound in a Mexican leaf, and finalized with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. This is a similar recipe to the former StillWell Star Aromatic No. 1 cigar, using slightly different pipe tobaccos and—more noticeably—rolling the cigars without a sweetened cap. The result is indeed an aromatic performance, being mild to medium in body and nicely balanced from start to finish. The experience remains one of the sweetest blends in the StillWell line, with the lack of a sweetened cap allowing for a more approachable experience for the traditional-leaning cigar palate. Instead of being forceful in sweetness, the Holiday Y2022 allows the smoke and cut tobaccos against the tongue to offer a more nuanced sweetness, hitting warm and indulgent flavors of campfire, earth, marshmallow-filled hot chocolate, and Nestlé Toll House chocolate chip cookie dough.
