CAO has become known over the years for their World Series, showcasing tobaccos from exotic and/or lesser-known regions throughout the world. This adventurous spirit now extends to Canada, with the CAO Borealis set to ship to retailers of all Canadian provinces on April 11th.

The CAO Borealis is named for the aurora borealis light phenomenon that occurs only in high-latitude regions around the world, including portions of Canada. But the Canadian influence doesn’t end there, as the blend itself features Canadian tobacco harvested from Ontario, where “a special Cuban-seed variety of dark air-cured tobacco is grown.”

Rick Rodriguez, CAO’s blender/ambassador said, “When you think of great tobacco growing regions, tropical climates and hot, humid growing seasons come to mind. That’s of course true. With ‘Borealis,’ we wanted our fans to experience something new, so we once again took an unconventional path. This time, we’re featuring Canadian tobacco and are delivering a blend that has an air of something different. It’s an experience that’s enjoyable and colors slightly out of the lines. A cigar you’ll want to talk about. And that’s exactly what we wanted to deliver.”

The Borealis is rolled in two formats (5″ x 52 Robusto | 6″ x 54 Toro) at the STG Estelí factory of Nicaragua. The blend includes an Ecuadorian Habano viso wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers of Nicaragua and Canada. This is described as a medium-bodied experience, having “notes of spice, cedar, pepper, nuts, and cocoa.” The cigars are shipping today in boxes of 20, including simplistic packaging that conforms to Canadian standards. Exact quantities produced and pricing have not yet been made available.
