All Saints Cigars entered the premium cigar scene in 2019, however, perhaps due to the unique circumstances of the past two years, they largely flew under the radar… seemingly hitting their stride in 2021. The company is headed up by Micky Pegg and Frank Layo, with the former having gotten his start in the cigar industry two decades prior, working with the likes of CAO and Davidoff. As the company’s name alludes, All Saints takes on traditional Catholic imagery and concepts, such as the Cross of Saint James incorporated into their logo. This is especially fitting, as Saint James is the patron saint of Nicaragua, where All Saints’ cigars are rolled. But the 2021 release was themed around a different saint—Saint Francis of Assisi—being one of the most prominent saints in the Catholic faith. For this, the company’s third cigar, All Saints made use of a hearty blend of Nicaraguan binder/fillers, being finalized in a very dark Ecuadorian oscuro wrapper (the brand has since been followed up with a lighter Colorado variant). This box-pressed beauty is everything you want from a Nicaraguan maduro, being dark and gritty, offering a decent amount of body, and finishing with just enough sweetness to steer clear of overly rough or harsh qualities. Flavors are easily approachable from start to finish, with standout notes of earth, brownie batter, black pepper, and creamy mocha.
