For those in the know, Aganorsa’s leaf is their strength, as the company’s motto states. This isn’t simply marketing speak or hyperbole, as their growing operation is among the two largest in all of Nicaragua. And with the Rare Leaf Reserve, Aganorsa seeks to highlight some of their more premium, low-yielding tobaccos. These tobaccos allow for a unique experience within the company’s lineup, though their limited availability means the cigars are crafted in smaller batches and offered only to Aganorsa’s top accounts. The Rare Leaf Reserve is built primarily around Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 leaves, joined by a portion of Corojo ’99 and a café-shade wrapper grown in Jalapa. The experience is medium-plus in intensity, with a thick smoking texture and long-lasting sweetness. Flavors range from musty oak and molasses to medium-roast coffee, nutmeg, and brown sugar sweetness.
