It had been four years since fans of AVO’s contemporary Syncro series were treated to a new blend when the brand announced the AVO Syncro Caribe as the fourth cigar in the lineup. The line originally debuted in 2015, nodding the cap toward founder, Avo Uvezian, with a theme of synchronization. In terms of tobacco, the tie-in was that AVO would move outside the brand’s comfort zone of virtually all-Dominican recipes, highlighting more exotic growing regions and synchronizing them with the Dominican essence that AVO has become known for over the past three-plus decades. And while the first three releases ventured to Nicaragua and South America, the Caribe brings it back home, focusing on the island vibes of the Caribbean. These vibes were captured surprisingly well in the cigar’s performance, showing a refreshing and aroma-heavy profile without feeling mild or restrained. Classic AVO-style florals lead the charge, though they feel sweeter and less in the tonic-like botanical range that AVO fans may be familiar with. These notes are joined by fruit tea, toasted bread, and a bright citrus quality that really makes the profile pop.
