Much like Cubariqueño’s first trade show in 2015, the company shared space with Espinosa Premium Cigars for PCA 2021. There was no booth banner or attention-grabbing gimmicks (apart from the infectious personalities of company owners, Juan Cancel and Kevin Keithan), simply a modest shelf displaying everything new from 2020 and 2021.

As the 2020 releases were delayed due to COVID-19, these cigars were still somewhat new to some. This includes the Protocol Eliot Ness Natural, Protocol Eliot Ness Maduro, and the Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit.

The main attraction was the followup to the aforementioned Eliot Ness cigars—Protocol Bass Reeves—which will become the third installment in the company’s upscale Lawmen Series. Like former releases in the series, the cigars will arrive in both natural (Sumatra) and maduro (Nicaraguan Habano) wrapper variants, each rolled in a 6″ x 52 box-press format. While the cigars did not have final packaging on the boxes and bands at the show, the release is slated for 30 days after PCA, priced at $11.95 MSRP.

Finally, Cubariqueño added to their original release—Protocol “Blue”—offering a 6” x 60 gordo format for the first time. Cubariqueño has long been known for sizes geared towards the connoisseur, including corona gordas and lanceros, but the demand for a modern gordo had increased enough to introduce the size to the portfolio.
