The Lunatic Torch cigar first debuted under Aganorsa’s JFR sub-brand in 2016, being rolled in a singular Churchill format in small but ongoing quantities. Following the success of 2019’s Lunatic re-brand, the company gave the same treatment to the derivative Torch line. This included expanding the single size to a larger lineup of three formats with larger distribution, though the blend and signature shaggy foot of the original remained. The cigar incorporates tobaccos exclusively from the AGANORSA agricultural operation of Nicaragua, focusing more on the sweet characteristics of the Jalapa growing region than many blends in Aganorsa’s portfolio (though there are also components from Estelí as well). This leads to the cigar’s headlining ingredient: a Corojo ‘99 wrapper from Jalapa, cut back by half an inch so as to allow a noticeable transition of flavor when the leaf kicks in. Warm and toasted notes of nutmeg and roasted chestnut make up the profile before the wrapper. When added into the mix, the wrapper adds a nice crispness to the experience, showing sweeter qualities of caramel oatmeal bar and vanilla candy.
