In a press release today, AVO and Camacho revealed a total of six releases to hit the market throughout 2020. For AVO, this includes the AVO Improvisation 2020, AVO Classic Maduro, and AVO Regional North and South. This is a new strategy for AVO and Camacho, both being sub-brands under Oettinger Davidoff. This change follows Davidoff’s recent decision to withdraw from the PCA 2020 trade show—where the company has historically unveiled the majority of their new releases each year. Also of note in a series of recent changes for the two brands, AVO and Camacho’s respective websites no longer exist; it is unclear whether they are being redesigned or if they will instead forward to Davidoff’s overarching online retail store going forward.

AVO Improvisation 2020

AVO’s annual limited series has continued since 2001, with the 2020 release marking the 20th year of consecutive releases, as well as the eighth in the Improvisation series. This year’s release is rolled in a 6½” x 50 toro format, incorporating tobaccos from Ecuador and multiple varieties from the DR. The smoking profile is described as beginning smooth and creamy and ending earthy and spicy. Since the launch of the Improvisation series, the cigars have been known for their extravagant packaging. This continues with the LE20, being encased in a smoke gray acrylic glass shell, housing two cedar trays of seven cigars. These boxes have been limited to 4,400 worldwide (2,500 of which are shipping to the U.S.), with pricing set at $224 MSRP.

AVO Classic Maduro

AVO Classic Maduro has returned to the brand’s core lineup for the first time since AVO updated its branding and overhauled its lineup in 2015. The cigars have returned in limited quantities in the years following, most recently being released during AVO’s 30th Anniversary celebrations in 2018. The Classic Maduro is blended as a play on the first cigar composed by the late Avo Uvezian: AVO Classic. Like the AVO Classic, the Maduro boasts a special filler ingredient of 25-year-aged tobacco. But the experience is more intense than the classic, swapping the wrapper for a dark Connecticut Broadleaf selection. The cigars are slated for an April release, launching with AVO-focused events across the country.

AVO Regional North and South

AVO first debuted their Regional series at IPCPR 2019, offering two unique blends/sizes that were exclusive to West Coast or East Coast retailers across the U.S. AVO continues this theme for 2020, now focusing on the North and South. Each variety features a unique blend and size, with the North Edition featuring a Dominican puro recipe and the South Edition encasing all-Dominican fillers with an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder/wrapper. The cigars showcase unique formats as well. The cigars are slated for fall releases, with each version being limited to 20,000 cigars and priced at $140/box MSRP.
