Announced in a joint press release today, Camacho and AVO revealed a total of six releases to hit the market throughout 2020. For Camacho, this includes the Camacho Liberty Series 2020, Camacho Nicaragua, and Camacho Bold 5ive Assortment. This is a new strategy for Camacho and AVO, both being sub-brands under Oettinger Davidoff. This change follows Davidoff’s recent decision to withdraw from the PCA 2020 trade show—where the company has historically unveiled the majority of their new releases each year. Also of note in a series of recent changes for the two brands, AVO and Camacho’s respective websites no longer exist; it is unclear whether they are being redesigned or if they will instead forward to Davidoff’s overarching online retail store going forward.

Camacho Liberty Series 2020

Camacho’s Liberty Series is among the longest-running, annual, limited-edition releases in the premium cigar market, with the 2020 release being the 19th in the series. Camacho stopped showcasing new blends for each release in 2018, instead revisiting former releases so as to better prep for FDA regulations. These cigars were dubbed Liberty Throwback, listing the year of the original release on the cigar’s bands and packaging. This has changed for the 2020 release—being branded as Liberty Series 2020—as Camacho has returned to showcasing new blends for the Liberty Series.

Liberty Series 2020 is not rolled in the brand’s signature 11/18 figurado format, instead boasting a box-pressed gordo vitola. The cigar incorporates leaves from three countries, primarily focusing on four different primings of Camacho’s signature Honduran-grown Original Corojo. Each of these tobaccos are sourced from a single farm and vintage, being aged for four years before being incorporated into the final blend. Liberty Series 2020 features American-themed artwork and elaborate, ultra-premium packaging, being launched to coincide with the July 4th celebrations.

Camacho Nicaragua

Camacho Nicaragua is the first new release in the brand’s core lineup since 2014’s Camacho Ecuador. The blend sources tobaccos from four countries, with the unspecified Nicaraguan ingredient making up a portion of the filler. This leaf joins Honduran and Dominican tobaccos in the filler/binder, being topped with an Ecuadorian wrapper. The overall taste profile is described as balanced and complex, yet boasting the “spicy, earthy and robust flavours” that characterize Nicaraguan tobacco. This is not Camacho’s first venture into Nicaragua, as the Nicaraguan Barrel-Aged launched in 2017, joining the American Barrel-Aged as a member of Camacho’s Master Built series. Camacho Nicaragua is listed as medium-plus in body, being offered in three sizes at launch, with prices ranging from $8.60 to $9.50 MSRP per cigar.
