Tyrannical Buc launched months before the 2019 IPCPR trade show, debuting first as a maduro offering and second with a contrasting Connecticut Shade cover leaf. Both versions of the cigar have been wrapped around the same core recipe, with the cigars being billed as among the most powerful smoking experiences to date from Jas Sum Kral Cigars. The cigars’ concept plays on the tyrannical force that the blend intends to impose upon the palates of experienced smokers; this combines with company owner, Riste Ristevski’s nickname (Buc) to form the brand’s unorthodox moniker.
Intended to be full in body and strength without sacrificing flavor output, Tyrannical Buc brings with it a double ligero recipe, complimented by a diverse, three-country blend makeup. In the Connecticut rendition—Tyrannical Buc Connecticut—this amounts to a unique profile unconstrained by the conventional notions of the classic Connecticut experience. Gone are the familiar characteristics of bitter-sweet nuances delivered through subdued body. Instead, the Tyrannical Buc smokes closer in style to a traditional Cuban, offering a near-medium body and bright flavors of citrus, salted butter, aromatic cabinet spices, tangy musk, and graham crackers. In our experiences, the cigar performed best in the 5½” x 40 Generosos format, further concentrating the aforementioned flavors and allowing for more calculated complexities.
