Following Joya de Nicaragua’s milestone 50th anniversary in 2018—capped off by the debut of Cinco Décadas—the company has announced the cigar’s first line extension: Cinco Décadas Fundador.

Translating to mean “Founder,” Fundador seeks to pay tribute to company founders, Juan Francisco Bermejo and Simón Camacho. The duo founded Nicaragua Cigar Company in 1968, famously becoming the first and oldest factory in Nicaragua (now known as Joya de Nicaragua).

When we conceived the concept of the brand, we decided that every year until the next big anniversary, we would nationally release a size that would pay tribute to key characters that shaped the story of our company, and thus, today we commemorate the vision of two immigrant businessmen that transformed our country.Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca, Chairman and Owner of JDN

Cinco Décadas Fundador is said to be the first of many line extensions for Cinco Décadas over the coming years, offering the same overall blend as the initial release, now being rolled in a 6″ x 54 soft-pressed Gran Toro format. The cigars are set to make their debut at the 2019 IPCPR trade show, held next week in Las Vegas. Fundador is packaged in boxes of 10 and priced at $20 per cigar, with authorized Drew Diplomat retailers across the country having exclusive access to offer the cigars to their customers.
