Gurkha Cigars Announces New Releases for 2019

Leading up to the 2019 IPCPR trade show, held in Las Vegas in late June, Gurkha Cigars has revealed a trio of new products, including a special cigar made to commemorate the brand’s 30th anniversary.

Gurkha Treinta

2019 marks a milestone for Gurkha, celebrating 30 years since CEO Kaizad Hansotia first purchased the rights to the brand. To mark the occasion, the company will debut ‘Treinta’ in a total of five formats (two of which are only available in limited edition anniversary humidors). Gurkha will be partnering with a new manufacturer for Treinta, teaming with the famed Fernández family and making use of their prized Nicaraguan-grown Aganorsa leaf throughout the filler and binder; rounding out the blend is an Ecuador Habano Rosado wrapper. The cigars are primarily available in three sizes (Robusto, Toro, Magnum), though an additional two (Belicoso, Figurado) have also been rolled for a special limited-edition humidor.

Packaging ranges from 21-count boxes (with the first 1,000 per size showcasing limited-edition commemorative displays), 5-count tins (available in the Toro format), and 50-count limited-edition humidors. Pricing ranges from $13 to $15, with the Treinta expected to begin arriving at retailers in September of this year.

Gurkha Real

The Gurkha Real is blended for a mild to medium body and an overall smooth experience. The cigars are rolled at the Tabacalera Las Lavas factory in the Dominican Republic, a common partner for Gurkha’s Dominican-made brands. Gurkha Real uses primarily Dominican tobaccos, but is rounded out through the use of Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian Connecticut leaves. Priced between $8 and $9, smokers can expect the blend to begin arriving in late August.

Gurkha Nicaragua Series

Following suit from Gurkha’s special 30th anniversary blend, the Nicaragua Series will be produced by Aganorsa Leaf’s operations in Nicaragua. While Gurkha Nicaragua Series is not a limited-edition blend, the cigars will be somewhat limited to retailers on their initial launch. Only Gurkha’s top retail partners (invitation only) will be offered the chance to sell the cigars to their customers, with each retailer allowed to acquire five boxes per size per store. The cigars feature a Nicaraguan puro blend and are said to be medium to medium-plus in body—priced in the $10–$11 range and arriving in late August.

Additional Updates

There will also be several new updates and size extensions for current Gurkha lines, which are also expected to ship in the August timeframe.
