Joya de Nicaragua has announced their second annual shipment of Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente—a special release that is exclusive to Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) retailers across the country. With Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente TAA 2019, however, the company has shipped the cigars with an added surprise—an experimental project dubbed ‘Selección de Torcedor 2019.’

While the Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente TAA 2019 encompasses the same blend/format as 2018 (being a more aged version of JDN’s original Antaño 1970 blend, rolled in a limited 6¾” x 50 “Presidente” format), the Selección de Torcedor 2019 is an entirely new concept. Providing enthusiasts a peek into the blending process of the legendary Fábrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua factory, Selección de Torcedor is an experimental offering, with the size/blend chosen by the factory’s experienced torcedores.

We are very excited that consumers in the US will enjoy Dr. Cuenca’s favorite vitola with a rare piece that we’ve been working at the factory for quite a few years. The blend in Selección de Torcedor 2019 is a very approachable smoke, smooth yet flavorful, and with a selection of tobacco especially conceived as a cigar that reflects the historic ties between Nicaragua and the US. Selección de Torcedor 2019 is rolled in a 6″ x 52 toro format and will be offered in 5-packs alongside the company’s TAA 2019 release. The project has been described as both “an extra step to express our gratitude with the trade and the industry,” as well as a testing ground for JDN—where popular blends may show potential for becoming regular offerings from the company in the future.
