In mid-February, Macanudo announced their plans to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a number of promotions and releases through the “50 Days of Macanudo” celebration. Beginning on March 12th, Macanudo will have prizes for consumers, rewards for retailers, new artwork, and the company will launch a new cigar under the Inspirado line.
Details of the new cigar have now begun to emerge, with a press release sent by parent company General Cigar Co. Beginning in late March, the company will launch Macanudo Inspirado Red, following the original Inpirado (now Inspirado Orange) and 2017’s Inspirado White and Black. Differing from the Inspirado Orange (made in Honduras) and the White and Black (made in the DR), the new Inspirado Red focuses on Nicaraguan tobaccos and is crafted at General Cigar’s STG Estelí (located in Estelí, Nicaragua).
Inspirado Red will debut in three sizes: Robusto (5″ x 50 box-pressed), Toro (6″ x 50), and Gigante (6″ x 60). The cigars are billed as full-bodied, utilizing a rarely seen Ecuadorian Habano ligero wrapper. The blend is rounded out with an assortment of aged tobaccos, including 12-year-aged Nicaraguan Ometepe, 10-year-aged Jamastran, and 5-year-aged tobacco from Estelí in the cigar’s filler; this is paired with a Nicaraguan Jalapa-based binder.
