Selected Tobacco held the grand opening of its new Madrid facility on October 10 and 11, with a facility tour followed by a gala evening for guests from across the premium cigar industry.
According to the company, the five-story, 3,000-square-meter building brings tobacco processing, a germination laboratory, production areas, design studios, and a 24-room aging complex under one roof. Founder Nelson Alfonso first envisioned the project five years ago.

The celebration began on October 10 with a tour of the facility. The release says guests saw the tobacco processing, germination laboratory, production areas, design studios, and aging complex, and describes the building as bringing production, aging, and hospitality together under one roof.

The gala followed on October 11 with live music and a flamenco performance that the release says nodded to Spanish culture.

An awards ceremony was part of the evening, with four recipients recognized for their contributions to the premium cigar community. The release names The Byron Cigar Lounge (Illinois), Corona Cigar Co. (Florida), and Two Guys Cigars (New Hampshire) among them.
“This is something we envisioned five years ago, and seeing it become a reality is incredibly meaningful,” said Nelson Alfonso, founder of Selected Tobacco. “This facility represents our commitment to the future of premium cigars. It is a place where we can continue to learn, improve, and build something that will last beyond me.”
Selected Tobacco’s brands are Atabey, Byron, Alfonso, Bandolero, and Nelson, and United Cigars distributes Atabey, Byron, Alfonso, and Bandolero in the U.S. The release does not say which cigars will be rolled in Madrid or when cigars from the facility will reach U.S. retailers.
The company has been busy on Dojo this year. In April it debuted a five-cigar Deluxe Collection set, and a second-edition Atabey Ritos gift set was slated to ship in October.
